Another significant system will push into south-central Canada this weekend , dropping temps over the N Plains while temporarily lifting them into the East. Highs will widely climb into the mid and upper 90s from Texas to the Carolinas with 100s over southern parts of Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

Eventually a front associated with the southern Canada low will push out the heat and humidity but with additional flooding thunderstorms.

While early next week sees the cool down and return to showers and storms over the Southeast, temps lifts again on the Plains and Southwest with 110s returning to the Desert as well as California’s Central Valley.

GFS ensemble 5-day mean 2m temp anomalies show the shift to much cooler in the east in the wake of the Canada low with heat regrouping Out West.

Heat has been pretty kind to the Northeast so far but with drought deepening I suspect this gentle open to summer is not going to last.
