The UK and West remain influenced by a cool, unsettled WNW air flow with frequent fronts bringing wind and rain while the heat is well and truly on from Balkans, Greece, Turkey up to Russia. Athens is use to hot weather but even for them, 40C is uncommon, particularly in June. On Saturday, Sparta, Greece reached 43C. Further east and the thermometer soared to 44C in western Turkey.

Three corridors of rain will focus the next 10 days with 1) Scotland 2) SE England/N France and Low Countries and 3) Italy up through Poland.
This week sees the continuation of Atlantic dominance for much of Ireland and Northern UK, less so across Southern UK thanks to high pressure positioned over France and Germany. This set means frequent spells of wind and rain with warm, dry slots in between lows as well as heat surges lifting up through France to Southern England.
