Cold Late May Day From UK To Germany Yesterday But Looking Good For Bank Holiday Weekend!

It was a raw day across much of England and Wales as well as the heart of the Cairngorms yesterday beneath the thick cloud and brisk easterly blowing in off the North Sea. Several English coastal communities and southern Pennines failed to get above 8C, 12C in London.

Think that was cold, try Cairngorm Summit where the thermometer failed to get above 0.0C, made worse by sustained winds between 15-26 mph, 12 miles SW and Aviemore only mustered 9.2C.

Interestingly Tyndrum in the SW Highlands was the UK warm spot with 17C, not a warm day UK-wide by May 25th standards.

Looking out across Europe and the cool wasn’t solely confined to the UK but Northern France eastward across much of Germany saw a very cool late May day.

A much improved day for Northern and Southern parts but cool beneath the cloud and spells of rain across southern and central Scotland extending into Northern Ireland.

A break in the weather and nice warm up at Roland Garros ahead of more disruptive rains Friday and the weekend.

How’s The Bank Holiday Weekend Looking?

Looks like we’re in luck with high pressure providing dry, bright and sunny conditions across the UK but visiting mainland Europe? It’s rather messy with a lot of thunderstorm activity.

Temperature wise, it’s pleasantly mild to warm in the sunshine over the UK (raw beneath cloud cover) and mid to upper 20s for much of the continent with this heat and low pressure aloft means thunderstorms will blossom widely.

Note Sunday is noticeably cooler over Southern England and Northern France thanks to a gathering low over the Low Countries which looks set to bring a wet and windy end to the long weekend.
