Flooding continues to plague Texas with further issues in and around Houston yesterday and today. However a lot of attention was drawn to Florida yesterday with up to a foot of rain falling in the Vero Beach area.

Heavy downpours continue to affect a large corridor from SE Texas to Florida.

As we head towards summer’s opening month, the Gulf continues to warm and this steam machine is sure feeding this active southerly storm track and helping enhance the Texas rains.

Florida has just begun it’s infamous ‘rainy season’ with surface temps now building into the early summer ‘upper 80s/low 90s’ criteria. With cool fronts from the north unable to reach this far south now, surface heating builds over Florida. With strong daytime heating between 11am and 1pm, the cooler air offshore is drawn towards land in the form of a sea breeze. Winds blowing in from both Gulf and Atlantic meet and create their own front which forces the air to lift and generate thunderstorms.

With surrounding waters now in the 78-82F range, humidity is increasing, helping fuel ‘sea breeze’ thunderstorms which dump big rains.

Miserable Weekend Ahead For Mid Atlantic

The very feature currently hammering SE Texas will depart tomorrow and provide a cool overcast and damp weekend across the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic region. This strengthening system as it reaches the East Coast is forcing any heat to re-route around up through the Great Lakes.

Temps running 20 below normal in Texas this afternoon and will be just as cool in the Mid Atlantic Saturday afternoon thanks to the same feature. Notice the chill in the West thanks to a deepening trough here.
