EUROPE: Drier, Blocky, Potentially Colder Pattern Becomes Established Next Week

It’s been quite a different morning compared to yesterday across particularly the South of England. Clear sky and light wind started the day yesterday with Benson, Oxfordshire shivering at -7.1C. This morning, thanks to a deep low skirting the South Coast bringing coastal gales, heavy rain as well as some hill snow, it’s +7.7C at Benson.

This good news is that once this feature weakens and clears into France later today, the weather improves late week and particularly through this weekend.

High pressure builds in nicely bringing a gruel warming trend which may peak Sunday with 16C possible in the South.

As we progress through next week, there is increasing model support for a strong 1040+ high to become centred over the North Sea or Denmark and since it extends all the way east into Russia, we may pick up a cold easterly making the Northern UK the warmest by day.

Beyond about Wednesday of next week, the details become sketchy but I would assume northern blocking remains but key for UK and near continent is exactly where that high centres. Overall, it’s looking like a colder than normal March.
