Thanks to an injection of polar air being drawn in and wrapped around the centre of a low over the UK.

The very storm system which brought last week’s Spain snow and arctic air crossed into the Mediterranean generating tremendous snow along the southern slopes of the French, Austrian and Italian Alps but out ver the open water and along exposed coasts, it was very stormy.

Cap Corse, Corsica recorded a gust of 106 mph.
