Yesterday was a big day for sport, specifically in Minneapolis where the Minnesota Vikings took on the Seattle Seahawks at the US Bank Stadium in the NFL postseason wildcard game.
After starting off the day at a frigid -11F in MSP, the temperature rose to a still bone-chilling -6 with -25 wind chill for kick off.
Minneapolis’s -11 Sunday morning low was a far cry from the -35 registered up in Hallock.
The kick off temperature of -6 made for the coldest kick off in Vikings history and 3rd coldest open to an NFL game in history. Coldest goes to the infamous 1967 icebowl where the gametime temperature was -13 in Green Bay.

Following the coldest high in MSP (-1) yesterday in 368 days, this morning is another frigid start.
This morning marked Chicago’s coldest start to winter with a low of -1 at O’Hare.
Clipper system pushes through Minnesota and Midwest this evening.
Forecasted snow cover following the clipper.
Same system will bring snow to the Northeast tomorrow.
Following a very slow start to the snow season over particularly the lee of the Great Lakes, they are catching up now.
GL are wide open and this with frigid air blowing down from the WNW fuels big snows to the lee.
See video for the discussion.
More tomorrow morning.
