Happy belated Thanksgiving to all my American subscribers and followers. Hope you’re enjoying the holidays with your friends and family.
We’re now on Black Friday, that crazy time when everyone flocks to the stores to grab a great deal.
For those who spent the night patiently waiting in line, outdoor conditions, as is often the case, widely variable with extremes on both ends of the thermometer. If in the Rockies, you likely woke to snow and frigid temps, from far east Texas up through the Ohio Valley, it was balmy by late November standards and for those in between, you either had snow, rain or ice to contend with.
A balmy Black Friday in the East.
The latest storm system currently over the Southern Plains is bringing a cornucopia of ice, heavy snow, strong winds and flooding rains and because of the record setting 1050+ high over the western Atlantic, this storm system will be slow to clear, hence the major flood threat and big rain totals over Texas, Oklahoma.
Here’s an animation of the surface through the next 36 hours.

Temps fell widely into single digits to below zero Out West this morning.
An impressive temp drop in Amarillo, TX yesterday morning. From 58 to 37 within a couple of hours thanks to the passing of the cold front.
Wind chills are no picnic on the TX panhandle this afternoon.
Not all of Texas is cold right now. Yep, there’s a 60 degree temp spread as of 2pm.
When you span out to a global perspective, one cannot miss the much stronger southern branch jet stream or subtropical jet very indicative of the strong El Nino ocean to atmosphere influence.
