Maritime Atlantic air has kicked the arctic air out of UK and now is now in the process of pushing it out of France and the Low Countries but not before snow and hard frosts bring the coldest starts of the season.
The front has been pushing through metro Paris this morning where a cold rain is currently falling but further east where lows dipped to -7C this morning, snow is expected to break out widely over eastern France. Much of the western continent woke to the coldest start. The core shifts east into Germany and Poland tomorrow.

Gloomy, damp and cold morning in Paris but temps rise later today.

By afternoon is was on the other side of the North Sea, making for the coldest day of the season for many including Paris!
Note the difference in highs across France back on Saturday with the arctic boundary sinking into northern France compared to yesterday. Paris has went from 16/17C Friday to just 4C yesterday.
Saturday
Big range in temperature across France yesterday as well as the Paris metro.
Today’s forecast. Note snow forecast for the east later today as the front approaches.
Lows this morning.
Wind and snow is forecasted down the eastern side of France today.
So, the main front which crossed the UK yesterday will cross France and Low Countries today with snow on it’s leading edge.
An even more noteworthy area for snowfall is over the mountainous Balkans where upwards of 50cm has fallen in the Dinaric Alps which runs through Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia
Topography of the Dinaric Alps.
The ESE bound front will continue to push towards the Alps late week presenting further heavy snowfall but it’s the collision between cold arctic air and warm, moist air lifting out of Africa that will bring the formation of another deep low over the central Med with severe gales likely along the coasts, flooding rain and mountain snow.
High pressure builds into the UK Wednesday through early Friday bringing a more settled, milder few days with less wind but by later Friday, the next major front sweeps in bringing more wet and windy weather across Ireland and the UK.
An additional 1-3ft of snow can be expected over the Alps and Dinaric Alps in the coming 5 days.
