Storms Bring Flash Floods To Turkey, Snow To Alps, Sept Weekend Looking Great!

We’re stuck in a chilly, showery NW flow here across the UK but this setup is soon to change come the weekend as heights builds in from the Atlantic.

As for mainland Europe, it’s been anything but benign, while the Spanish Costas continue to sweat in mid-summer heat (37C in Malaga), flooding rains too cause issues around around Alicante but the big weather story has been the major floods of epic proportion in the popular Aegean resort town of Bodrum.

In the Alps, the cold upper trough has brought the first significant snows to the Alps while heavy rains, strong winds bring nasty weather to Italy.

The heat in Spain is not as widespread as a few weeks ago, generally confined to the Med Coast where terral winds blowing from west to east has brought widespread low to mid 30s up the coast, only 14-20C in central and northern parts where hit by flooding rainfall again yesterday.

2pm temps Tuesday soared to 37C in Malaga thanks to strong terral winds blowing towards the coast.

With changes in the upper air pattern, the warmest weather shifts into SW Spain and Portugal today.

Up to 10 inches of fresh snow has also fallen in the French, Swiss, Austrian and Italian Alps in recent days.

It’s been a long, hot and dry summer for Spain and according to AEMET, 2015 was the second warmest summer since 1961, beaten only by 2003.

As we head into the September holiday weekend, high pressure builds making for a glorious weekend if your heading to Blackpool or wherever. Be sure to grab a jacket for evenings as it will turn chilly with patchy frost possible in settled rural areas but by day, sunshine and light winds should see temps rise nicely into the 15-18C range.

As for the stormy continent, the worst of the weather pulls away from Italy into Greece and Turkey, Looking rather stormy for Greece and Turkey where they don’t need it!
