Where wet it’s been cool and where dry, it’s been record warm. The Pacific Northwest region takes the cake for worsening drought conditions than anywhere in the Lower 48.

Parts of Midwest/Ohio Valley see wettest summer on record.

While the drought has continued to worsen across the Pacific Northwest, drought has also worsened for South Florida up until August when significant rains hit including that of Erika.

What’s most interesting about South Florida this summer has been the huge contrast in precipitation distribution. For areas up towards Tampa it’s actually been one of the wettest with upwards of 31 inches while it’s been one of the driest around the Miami area.

Up to  14 inches of rain in August has helped boost lake levels.

It was of course Erika which helped South Florida out a lot. Here’s the remnants of Erika crossing out into the warm Atlantic this morning where redevelopment is possible in coming days.

It’s been an incredibly back and fourth summer for the Northeast, however today marks the 33rd day above 90 in Philadelphia and the 47th for Washington.

Note the heat initially focuses on the Dakotas with upper 90s/low 100s but gets displaced into the Southeast and Mid-South over the next few days. A significant cool down arrives in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic thanks to a backdoor cold front. 90s today down to 70s this weekend.

By next Tuesday, it’s back to the 90s in the Northeast as the high slides off the coast and winds veer SW.
