There’s no question, this week will be the warmest of the year and possibly in years throughout Western Europe as very hot air continues to build over the Spanish plateau. The influence of the low out over the Atlantic while eventually lift the blow torch conditions over Iberia northward through France and eventually covering the UK by Tuesday/Wednesday.
Exactly how warm it gets remains to be seen but temps in El Granado, Spain reached 43.9C yesterday and today is expected to be hottest for Iberia, potentially approaching the national June record of 45.2C.

The BBC has Paris reaching the upper 30s (in and around 100F) by mid to late week. I don’t believe it’s record territory by day (maybe for June though) but night temps may be the more noteworthy aspect. The BBC earlier had the Wed AM low at 25C (77F) (now 24C). A low of 25C would TIE the all-time record ‘warm minimum’ temperature in Paris set back in the infamous 2003 heat wave which is said to have killed up to 70,000 in Europe. Nonetheless, it’s going to become dangerously hot for the French capital with 30s as early as today.
GEM model has 101F or 38.4C in the vicinity of Paris next Sunday.
With daytime highs over the UK ranging between a possible 34C in Greater London to 25C in Glasgow, nights will be sticky for sure, especially with Mediterranean humidity within this very warm, sub-tropical air mass. Heat health warning is likely to be issued perhaps later today for the coming days…

There’s no question that this week is going to be a toasty one but how long may this last? Good question. As for current model projections, it looks like some relief comes to Ireland and the Northwest UK first but it may be a ‘come and go’, a bit of back and fourth battle between low out over the Atlantic and high over the near continent. Areas inland over mainland Europe could be faced with a ‘prolonged heat event’ but looks like the ridge weakens towards the 7-10 day period, earlier for the UK and Ireland.
ECMWF surface shows plenty of ‘weather’ moving into Ireland and the UK within the next 10 days.
See this morning’s video for the discussion.
