UK/Ireland was cooled by a colder-than-normal Atlantic, helped by persistent westerly flow but continental Europe was warmer-than-normal thanks to a strong +NAO.

As for May, it was unusually windy for the UK/Ireland.

Persistent, stronger-than-normal winds blowing off a cold North Atlantic helped make for a cooler-than-normal month for the UK/Ireland and near continent. In stark contrast, Southern Iberia was record warm where national and even a continental May record high was achieved.

Following dry Feb-Apr period, wet turned things around and was much wetter than normal.
