After a cold, frosty overnight, the next front is now pushing in. As the moisture bumps up against the cold air, so snowfall is occurring above 150-200 metres with mixing down to lower levels. It’s sleeting here in Lennoxtown with snow falling in the hills to my north as I write.
If your travelling the higher road routes today, particularly in Scotland (A9, A82, A95, A96, M74), and through the Cumbrian Fells, North Pennines (A66) the combination of snow and wind will make for tricky travel.

ECMWF surface today.
Once the main band pushes through, wind and hill snow remains a feature and as we head for dark and temps drop, so will snow levels with light accumulations possible even through parts of the Central Lowlands tonight. Watch for icy stretches too as clear skies in between the showers allows the temp to drop.
The main low dives southeast towards Scotland through tomorrow and so winds increase. Expect even worse driving conditions during Monday on the high roads routes as blizzards are quite likely due to gale-force winds.
Cold NW winds follow in the wake of this system and therefore we stay chilly but quieter Tuesday before the next system rolls in off the Atlantic midweek.
More snow will arrive with this one followed by another cold blast on the backside.
By week’s end, the ECMWF has built up quite the snow pack once again thanks to the series of fronts and cold air lingering.
As we look out towards day 7 through 10, the ECMWF sees a deeper, colder trough pushing in. Worth watching but still quite about bit out.
See video for today’s discussion.
