Snow Becomes Widespread & Heavy Across Northern UK Today As Cold Spell No 4 Moves In

WARNING: DISRUPTION IS LIKELY ACROSS SCOTLAND, NORTHERN IRELAND AND NORTHERN ENGLAND TODAY AS SHOWERS TURN READILY TO SNOW, PARTICULARLY THIS EVENING!

A cold front currently sweeping SE down the UK is drawing in the next cold air mass of arctic origin.

As today wears on, the cold flow becomes stronger and with embedded ‘waves’ will come heavier showers which turn increasingly to snow. By this evening, most places experiencing these showers WILL SEE SNOW, even down to sea level.

If your travelling (myself included), use caution as roads are expected to become snow covered or part snow covered and slippery.

The surface charts show the blocked up pattern which develops this weekend and should lead to persistent cold with further snow threats next week.

This cold shot hits and holds. Love the continued cold look in the ECMWF 500mb height anomalies day 0-5 and 5-10.
