Just when you thought winter may be over, we have 2 snow systems attacking the snow barren Northeast this week ahead of potentially the strongest shot of cold all winter… the old man himself is returning…

I showed you yesterday the setup with the lead clipper system followed by a more significant storm system which whitens a large chunk of North Texas before heading up the EC, bringing what could be the first MAJOR snow event of the system. This clipper could bring, for some the biggest snow yet followed by an even bigger snow producer. If you want it cold in the NE and Mid-Atlantic, well this is the way to get it.

The trough deepens sharply over the Eastern US in the wake of the clipper and ahead of the secondary storm which runs the eastern flank of the trough which by this time will have some VERY cold air within it.

Because of that, IF and it remains a big if, it happens that we get a substantial low develop into the seasons first true Nor’easter, snow totals from DC to Boston could be very significant. Some of the more noteworthy snowstorms/blizzards up the East Coast have been associated with very cold, arctic origin air and that may be the case this weekend. The coldest air of the season is likely to drive straight to the coast in the wake of the snowstorm.

Note how the models see it snowing and sticking pretty far south! Looks like southern cities from Amarillo to OKC across to Nashville could see a few inches out of this week.
