I forgot to mention in today’s video… Happy Thanksgiving to all and what a chilly one it is too. It hit -28 in Jamestown, ND while International Falls hit -19 this morning. -2 in the Twin Cities. All by far the coldest to date.
This morning’s lows.
Hasn’t warmed much today…
Here’s why.. just look at that arctic high…

That arctic high is over the Northeast tonight.
Note the low thicknesses. 516 nearly down to NYC while 522 gets south of Cape May!
Here’s national snow cover following the latest storm. Now at 33%
94% over the Northeast.
With that high and low thicknesses settling over a widespread fresh snow cover tonight, I suspect these Friday morning lows may be too warm.
It does warm up by 72 hours response to the AK trough and height rises in the eastern Lower 48.
Notice though that even by 72 hrs, heights are positive over AK and thus the deep trough and low heights over central Canada are poised to dive down the Plains yet again next week.
The trough comes and goes as the ridge gets quickly replaced by a trough over Alaska.
IF we do see a decent recovery, based on all that’s going on… the question is how long does it last before the next trough comes calling?
THE MODELS ARE STRUGGLING TO SEE WHAT’S GOING ON. The below is a perfect example…
Check this out from the CFSv2 week 3 and 4. Complete garbage. Warm everywhere, yeah right…
That kinda warmth up in Alaska suggests the opposite down over the Lower 48.
Here’s the 500mb anomalies.
If you got that kinda positive from the West Coast to Newfoundland would mean a deeper, stronger trough over the Southeast US and not the warmth it has.
