While the UK and a swath from Ireland right up to NW Russia looks set to enjoy some warm, settled weather (particularly where the sun shines), parts of the Alps and Apennines of central Italy got their first snowfall.
Check out these images I put up on my twitter page yesterday.

Check out the cold low spinning over Italy responsible for this EARLY snowfall. Quite the height contrast compared to the UK.

In today’s written post I’m merely going to put up the charts shown in the video just uploaded. There’s enough discussion in there to explain this pattern but as stated, high pressure has different output at this time of year compared to midsummer. Yes, there will be more in the way of cloud but the emphasis to this sustained ‘high pressure’ pattern is more about the drier, settled and in the sunshine, warmer conditions compared to recent weeks.
August was coldest in 21 years and this week should see most areas of the UK as well as Ireland enjoy the warmest readings since the end of July.
