Pattern Change On The Way For Europe

Written by on June 10, 2014 in Rest of Europe, United Kingdom & Ireland with 0 Comments

We’ve seen (by far), some of the wildest weather in many years across parts of France, Germany into Poland with powerful storms blustering into mighty MCS’s.

Last night was no exception with 9cm diameter hail falling within one MCS over France while another system in west Germany killed one with over 21k lightning strikes within 2 hours.

While stormy again today, the extremity of these systems will weaken in coming days as the pattern begins to bring down.

High pressure in recent weeks (in the means) has been centred over eastern then central Europe but over the next 7 days a significant trough will drop south over Russia into central areas bringing much more refreshing air into areas which have been considerably above normal of late.

Low pressure off Ireland will be replaced by high pressure. The very high that’s been keeping things more than warm, all thanks to the trough digging south.

The GFS ensembles show this westward shift in the mean ridge through the next 16 days.
