As your well aware by now, we have a stormier setup across Western Europe over the next couple of weeks as energy gathers over the Atlantic.
This weekend appears to bring in the first of three deep lows with pressure expected to drop to near 950mb according to the GFS not too far off the Scottish coast and thus gales or severe gales are likely Saturday over Northern Ireland and Scotland as well as the North of England.
The Europe high and Greenland/N Atl trough along with the baroclinic temperature contrast and warm SST feedback, help really deepen these lows.

This pattern appears to recast the atmosphere and interestingly the CFSv2 shows blocking across the arctic with strong positives linking Alaska and Greenland towards months-end which presents a potential very cold start to January right across Europe including the UK.
Here’s the CFSv2 500mb height anomalies.
Week 1-2
Week 3-4

Hoping so. Us snowbies wait all year for a cold winter. Hope it’s not going to be mild and damp.
