Scotland

It’s a decent end to your Thursday across much of the country with good spells of sunshine, always that bit cloudier in the East, sunniest in the West. Overnight tonight and beneath clear skies and light winds with a cooler air mass in place too, expect tonight to be the coldest night since late spring with lows dipping to 0C in sheltered Glens of the West Highlands. Even inland western towns and cities may dip to between 4-6C, a few degrees warmer under cloudier skies further east.

The first half of Friday is looking good with plenty of sunshine on o0ffer though cloud will increase from the south while winds increase from the north. While today was cool, tomorrow will be even cooler, especially with the raw N wind. Expect highs of 12-15, locally 16C. By late afternoon and into the evening, the rain will begin to spread north into Southern Scotland, setting the scene for a very wet Saturday ahead.

England

Today marked the hottest September day in 6 years with a preliminary high of 30.2C at Frittenden, Kent. Through the rest of this evening, temperatures cool gradually but still holding in the low 20s till 8 or 9pm but by then, a developing low over southern England will begin to produce rain through the second half of the evening. This rain peps up overnight and expands northwards. Much of the overnight will remain dry and cool in the far North but conditions go downhill through the second half of the overnight period. Lows tonight will range from a cool 5 or 6C over Cumbria to a balmy 16C in London.

Thursday will be a very different start compared to this morning with an area of moderate rain extending from south-central England up to Lancashire and Cumbria. Through the morning and into the afternoon this rain looks to intensify and thus raising the flood threat, especially over the Midlands up into the North. By evening, rains will continue in the South but gradually easing while it’s a very wet end to a wet day across the northern half of the country.

Winds will freshen from the north and it will feel significantly cooler than today at between 13-17C, a solid 10-13C lower than today.

It stays wet Saturday in the North while drying out in the South. Remaining cool.

Wales

It turns cloudy this evening as well as cooler with low pressure developing to the east. While tonight won’t be particularly wet, it will turn fresher with winds increasing from the north. Lows tonight range from a chilly 6 or 7C to a milder 12 or 13C in the South.

The real wet weather arrives through tomorrow as rain develops and increases in intensity through the morning and into the afternoon. With winds blowing out of the north, combined with the heavy rain, it’s going to be a shock to the system after the recent warmth. Highs tomorrow should be no better than 13-16C, feeling cooler if exposed to the north wind.

Tomorrow night will continue to see the rains, though becoming scattered but still heavy in many places and this setup continues through the first half of Saturday.

Northern Ireland

It’s a fine end to a fine day albeit considerably cooler than yesterday when it got up to 22C. Today it was closer to 15 or 16C at best. Clear skies, light winds and a cooler air mass in place, presents the country with the coldest night probably since May with temps widely down to between 4-6C, locally 1 or 2C with patchy grass frost.

Friday shall be very bright and sunny through the first half but cloud and eventually rain encroaches from the North Channel through the afternoon and by evening, this rain spreads in turning heavy tomorrow night. Highs tomorrow will be even cooler than today at 13-15C with a strengthening north wind.

Saturday will be very autumnal with rain, wind and highs of only 10-12C.

Ireland

Clear and cold tonight with overnight lows dropping to near frost territory over parts of the Midlands but showers will develop overnight in parts of both the west and east. Lows widely between 3-6C with the breeze picking up from the north.

Friday looks largely fine and bright but showers develop through the late morning and afternoon as winds increase out of the north. Feeling cooler than today at between 13-16C.

Heavy rain spreads in from the Irish Sea later tomorrow, making for a wet, chilly and blustery end to the week. Saturday starts off wet and windy but it should dry out some through the second half of the day. Staying chilly and windy.
