Today marks the warmest of the year for both Edinburgh and Glasgow and possibly for Scotland overall. With this warmth and fairly humid air, thunderstorms have been popping over particularly east-central areas of the country and these over the next couple of hours may slide west along the M8 corridor, possibly bringing a thundery end to the day as far west as Glasgow, despite it being sunny just now.

After sun set those showers loose fuel and therefore fall apart and we’re left with a fairly quiet, mainly cloudy, misty, murky night. Lows in central Glasgow may hold at 12C while 9-11C is a good bet elsewhere.

Tomorrow is looking a little less warm with highs of 16-20C, possibly an odd 21C somewhere. It’s a quieter day compared to today in terms of thunderstorm activity. Sunshine should be plentiful with a mix of clouds a times.

By Wednesday it turns considerably cooler with winds increasing from the north. Highs in the east may struggle to reach 10C.

England

It’s been a day of sun and clouds but largely dry with the exception of an odd heat-induced pop-up shower over the Pennines. Highs today managed to reach 20-21C where the sun was shinning through much of the afternoon, closer to 16 or 17C beneath the thicker cloud but relatively mild and muggy nonetheless.

Through tonight and it turns cloudy, misty with fog developing within valley areas in particular. Don’t rule out some lingering showers or the odd thunderstorm through the early evening before dying out. Lows tonight hold up at 10-13C so it will be a fairly warm evening.

Tomorrow should be a near repeat of today but cloud may be a little more extensive and temperatures a degree or two down on today at 16-18C.

Wednesday turns cooler as northerly winds increase but it stays mainly dry at least.

Wales

Today was largely fine, dry and sunny with decent spells of warm sunshine. Highs managed to reach around 19 or 20C this afternoon with perhaps an odd 21C locally.

Tonight should be a quiet night with plenty of evening sunshine to be enjoyed if your out and about. Lows will stay mild tonight with 8C in the countryside, holding up at 11 or 12C in Cardiff.

Tuesday is looking like another fine, dry day with a mix of sun and cloud, perhaps an odd pop-up shower over Snowdonia. Highs a little down on today at 16-18C.

Wednesday turns cooler with perhaps a slight increase on the shower risk.

Northern Ireland

It’s been a fairly cloudy affair across Ulster today but dry at least and temperatures were up on recent times at 16 to perhaps 18C locally. The breeze has been fresh, even strong along the north coast but the combo of northerly winds and cloud held temperatures lower than what was witnssed on the UK mainland today.

Tonight stays mild with lows of 8-11C with plenty of cloud but it should stay dry with just a low risk of an odd shower in the north.

Tuesday will be another fairly decent dry day but clouds will again be thick and extensive, limiting any sunshine. Expect highs similar to today at 15 to 17C.

Wednesday turns cooler with highs held down at 11-13C with an increasing north wind.

Ireland

It’s been a largely cloudy day across the country with some light and patchy rain here and there but on the whole, it’s stayed dry. Temperatures haven’t been too bad despite the cloud, managing to get up to 15 or 16C.

Tonight will be mild and mostly cloudy. Lows hold up at between 9-11C with little in the way of rain.

Tuesday will be much the same with highs again rising towards 15 or 16C in places but it turns cooler through the second half of this week.
