Unprecedented Midwest Snow, Cold Dives All The Way To Texas!

It’s snowing hard across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa with 5+ inches now on the ground at the same time Chicago was enjoying it’s warmest start to a May in 21 years. The high topped 84 degrees this afternoon at O’Hare. This is a situation you are likely to never see again in your lifetime as a MAJOR MAY SNOWSTORM is unfolding with unprecidented amounts expected across the Mid-Mississippi Valley. Astonishing 6-10 inch amounts aren’t out of the question as far south as Kansas once the upper low gets a little further east and positioned over southern Missouri. The GFS is printing out incredible stuff and it’s not fantasy!

It was in the 80s in SE Iowa while only 32 with snow in the NW corner this afternoon and the cold and SNOW is heading all the way to Lubbock, Texas later tonight into Thursday morning as temperatures drop away.

Over the next 48 hours, when all is said and done, 1-3 inches of snow is possible across the northern Texas Panhandle into western Oklahoma while a strip of 6-12 inches is possible anywhere from central and eastern Kansas up through NW Missouri, Iowa, SE Minnesota into northern Wisconsin. All sorts of records are possible here.

Highs Thursday could potentially stay in the 30s as far south as the TX and OK Panhandle which is unbelievable and some 35-40 below normal. Parts of eastern Kansas, Missouri and Iowa may hold near freezing all day and these would almost certainly be the coldest daytime temperatures in history for this late in the season.

Look out for record lows to follow the record cold highs..

Due to techinical issues, I’m unable to upload images but I am going to upload some charts onto my twitter page @MarkVogan. Should have this issue sorted by tomorrow.
