It’s a very wet evening after a wet and windy day across much of the country but beyond 11pm or Midnight rains should ease from the southwest, eventually easing across Glasgow and into the west Highlands and by dawn Friday, rain and hill snow should be confined to the northeast.

However, much of this evening will continue to be a very wet and windy night and if you haven’t had flooding, you may still experience it. A poor evening rush for most and that is why the Met Office has an AMBER WARNING, particularly for the east. Also watch out for hill snow which could fall down to road level over the higher routes of Grampian and central Highland. As winds are strong to gale-force out of the southeast, blizzard conditions are likely. Lows tonight 2-5C.

Friday looks to be an improving picture for much of the country with even brightness returning but if your in Fife, Tayside up thro0ugh Angus and Grampian, those rains and hill snows will continue through much of the day, expect flooding and use caution. Highs 4-8C.

While we’ve already seen a very soggy past 24 hours, yet another batch of very wet and windy weather arrives on Saturday, so more flooding is likely.

England

A very poor first part of tonight is on offer for the majority of England after a very wet and windy day with a real chilly feel thanks to that strong southeast wind. The only place to find an ease from the heavy rain early on this evening will be down across the Southwest corner where as much as 2 inches has already fallen here.

The wet and windy weather will continue to cause issues with localised flooding and if your out and about tonight, little changes until late this evening and into the overnight period as rain will steady ease across the South and the drier conditions will slowly spread north. By 5am, many will have seen the rains stop and the cloud linger but unfortunately from York northwards, Friday looks to dawn cold, wet and windy once again. Even across the soggy North, expect those rains to clear away mid morning.

Friday will see respite from all the wind and rain with brightness returning, winds ease. Highs 5-9C.

While we’ve already seen a very soggy past 24 hours, yet another batch of very wet and windy weather arrives on Saturday, so more flooding is likely. This air is coming from the southwest, so expect mild temperatures behind the fronts.

Wales

As much as 1.5 to 2 inches of rain has fallen in just the past 12 hours over Cardiff with greater amounts up over the hills of South Wales with flooding causing issues across many parts, so no surprise that as of early this afternoon as many as 12 flood alerts cover the country.

It will be a dismal early part of tonight with a tricky evening rush hour with further flooding highly likely but as we progress through tonight and overnight, the rains finally clear out and this will allow some clearing with a drop in temperature. With the combination of clearing and cooling along with saturated ground, watch out for dense mist and fog patches by Friday morning. Lows 2-5C.

Friday looks a much better day with bright or sunny spells and a respite from all the rain. Highs 6-11C.

Make the most of the break as another wave of wind and rain sweeps up from the southwest, arriving later Friday evening and this will set the stage for another wet and windy day come Saturday.

Northern Ireland

After a wet and windy day, tonight turns dry and with clear spells developing, we could see mist and fog patches setting in overnight. Lows 3-5C.

Friday looks to be a fine, dry and even a bright day with highs generally 6-8C but as we progress through Friday evening, another batch of wet and windy weather will sweep up from the southwest and so a wet and windy Saturday and Sunday is on the cards throughout Ulster, make the most of tomorrow’s dry interlude.

Ireland

While much of the UK has seen a dismal Thursday, conditions across Ireland haven’t been quite as bad with plenty of decent dry spells with even some sunshine peeking through. This fairly settled theme will continue through tonight and with clear spells will come mist and fog patches. Don’t be surprised to see an odd patch of light frost as temperatures drop towards 1-2C in rural parts.

Friday will be similar to today with a mainly dry day with some light rain working into southern parts just. Highs 6-9C.

Tomorrow evening will see the change to a wetter and windier theme and this will advance across the country come Saturday.
