Another December 2010 Is On The Table For Europe

While this month has a long way to go and things can change.. it would appear the general consenses in the models all point to snowier and colder times THROUGHOUT Europe and the UK and to put it bluntly, so much for the ‘mild December’ many thought would happen.

As I’ve kept harping on about now for the best part of 10 days, Europe’s snowcover is growing by the day and by early next week, a vast area will be under a blanket of white. Even the UK will see more and more snow and all this will lay down the tracks for the Siberian Express to run along.

Folks, the way things are going, we may have another December 2010 evolving and I have been telling close friends and family to prepare for far colder and testing times to come.

Just like December 2010, at the same time the NAO was going negative, Europe saw a rapid growth in snowcover with severe cold following from the east. I have stated the importance of the Europe pattern both with snow and then cold and the potential consequences that could have for the UK and Ireland. Why do I say or think all this? Because it’s learning from past weather and patterns. The importance of the positive NAO/AO during November that many couldn’t understand and also the connection between the wet summer and autumn and the biased NEGATIVE NAO which was opposite to this time last year. ALL these factors play into WHY I think what I do and where I got my forecast from.

If the current models are correct, then we have a very interesting week to come next week.

Ok, check out these snow projections for next week according to the ECMWF.

Even at 96 hrs, there is a large expanse of snow covering Europe and even parts of the UK!

However, check this out for 240 hrs! Wow…

Here’s the ECMWF upper chart and 850 temps. Note the blocking and positive heights across the north!
