Scotland

A stable air mass is in place with ridging locking in a moist low level air mass which will support misty, murky days to come. After a sunny start to your Monday, it’s turned cloudier as the afternoon has worn on. This will come and go into this evening and as darkness falls, so skies turn misty with dense fog forming. This will likely turn extensive through tonight. Temperatures between day and night may only vary by 2-4C for most, especially where cloud or mist/fog lingers and through Tuesday that may be the case widely for much of the day. Remember the sun angle is growing lower and so the sun’s energy is far less, meaning it’s harder for the sun to burn off low level fog, especially in sheltered areas where it may take till mid afternoon for the sun’s rays to reach some spots. Today through Wednesday will see highs range from 9C in dense and lingering fog to 12-14C where fog breaks and sunshine gets through. Lows range from 9-11C in the South where milder air is present to 0-3C in the North where skies are clearer and a cooler air mass is in place.

England

The majority of England from today through Thursday will see a mixed bag of weather ranging from off and on showers, a mix sunshine and cloud and for many, especially through tomorrow.. a mix of sun and fog. Showers will become few tonight after the ones we’ve seen today and this sets the scene for the next few days as a boundary creeps further north, introducing milder air from off the continent where temperatures have been very warm for late Oct.

The mild, continental air mass will continue to spread up from France and the Low Countries but although heights are relatively high aloft, the moisture trapped beneath the ridge means that if your inland and don’t see mist or fog form tonight after sunset, your lucky. I recon over 90% of England will become mist or fogbound tonight and this could linger well into mid or late morning. Many, especially in sheltered valleys may see fog linger much of the day. This will support mild temperatures at 9-15C tonight with only a fraction of difference during the day tomorrow. If your in the Southeast and the fog breaks, you may see a high push 20 or 21C.

This setup continues through Wednesday, perhaps Thursday.

Wales

A blanket of mist, fog and cloud will linger across much of Wales today through Wednesday. Sunshine will break through by day but for many, mist and fog will only give way to the formation of low cloud. Temperatures are mild for the time of year by day and night, holding at between 10-13C for most and by day, there’s little change with 13-16C during the day. If sunshine does break through, highs may approach 18C in some southern spots.

Northern Ireland

Like the majority of the UK, following and misty, murky and damp start, skies only turn cloudy with little sun to be had but the air is mild at 12-14C. Into tonight mist and fog quickly forms and this will be slow to clear by morning, again only to lift into a deck of low cloud throughout much of the country. Temperatures at night drop to only 8-10C and by day, they rise to around 12-14C.

Ireland

It’s been a fairly decent day across much of Ireland with decent brightness in the west, patchy light rain and denser cloud in the south and east. Tonight will see a damp night in eastern areas with a mix of cloud and clear spells elsewhere. Mist and fog will form readily for many tonight with temperatures falling to around 8-11C.

Tomorrow will be a generally cloudy with some sunny spells appearing in the west. Sheltered areas will see the fog linger and there’s just an odd chance of a light shower in the south. Highs tomorrow 12-13C.
