SoCal Storm, Severe Weather, Northeast Cold

Sorry guys for the LATE US post for today. I promise. I will look in greater detail at the US situation Thursday afternoon, especially since there’s lot’s going on.

I am rushing off so want to leave some quick thoughts.

Ok, so we’ve a big cut off storm system (riding the southern branch of the jet) which will push through the Desert Southwest tonight bringing rain, high elevation snow and wind with it. But, as you would expect, as this energy gets towards the Rockies and it picks up some warmer air and higher dew points, so this system should intensify just like the AccuWeather graphic above shows.. Sure will be nice to get a fairly decent rain for LA and San Diego tonight.

The storm later Friday should track northeast through the Plains and it is here where the fun and games should begin!

On Friday it will be North Texas and the Panhandles of TX/OK perhaps up to western Kansas where there’s a heightened risk for severe weather as cooler, drier air gets drawn down on the backside while, warmth and humidity gets lifted north from the Gulf, sets the stage for a severe weather outbreak.

On Saturday, that severe potential heads east and north, extending from eastern Oklahoma to Chicago. This should bring a decent soaking too to the drought areas.

Here’s the qpf precip forecast for the next 3 days! Good to see this rain in this area for sure!

A weak almost clipper-like system will be tracking through the Upper Lakes tonight into tomorrow and while very cold air rides with it to the north, this may bring a sizeable snowstorm to central Ontario, southern Quebec, perhaps far northern Maine.

Once this system pulls off the coast, a big cold high develops Friday and it’s Friday night into Saturday morning which could be interesting. Widespread Northeast US/Eastern Canada frost/freeze. We could see the 32-degree line get near to the major cities. Widespread rural 20s and perhaps widespread teens up over northern NY and New England.

I shall have a more in-depth look at the upcoming 2 WEEKS Thursday PM!
