Tired of all this wet weather? Yes, I know I certainly am. Ireland and Northern Ireland as well as the Northwest and far north of Scotland has seen a very windy spell over the past 12 to 18 hours thanks to a deep low nearest you. Elsewhere, while breezy, the main story has really been the heavy and persistent rains which have lasted much of the day from Southwest England up through Wales, the Midlands, Northern England and Scotland, many have seen over 1 inch.
Tonight will see those winds continue to blow across the far north and here it remains a rather soggy old late August night.
Tuesday sees relief from the rain with just an odd shower. Plenty of sunshine to be had as that low scoots on north, northeast bringing it’s heavy rains with it.
Here’s the GFS precip chart starting Tuesday. Note the rains pushing east and a dry slot moves in as heights rise slightly on the backside of the low.
However, the storm train is very active and so the next low is never far away. Here’s what’s coming Wednesday!
So, yes, Tuesday’ smore settled and warmer theme will be all so brief before the next batch of rain sweeps in from the southwest. While not as strong as what parts of Ireland and the west and northwest UK endured last night and this morning, winds will increase and turn gusty again along exposed western coasts.
Like, today, Wednesday should see some decent rains thanks to the cold front associated with these lows extending all the way down into the subtropics, grabbing that higher moisture content within the warmer environment and drawing it north up into the UK.
Turning more settled, warmer from Thursday on into the weekend!
With all this rain today and the next batch coming Wednesday, is there any sort of light at the end of the tunnel for this week? The answer I am pleased to say is yes.
Check this out…
Once Wednesday’s low follows today’s, on off towards Scandinavia, heights build in and we have got some warmer, sunnier weather in store towards late week and into this weekend.
