[error] HEAT WARNINGS HAVE BEEN ISSUED AS TEMPERATURES BY SUNDAY ARE EXPECTED TO NEAR OR EXCEED 100F IN MADRID, PARIS, BRUSSELS AND AMSTERDAM [/error]

The much anticipated heat wave set to blister Western Europe through the next 48-72 hours began to show it’s hand today over Iberia as brutal heat crossed the Gibraltar Strait and across southern and central Spain. Now as the low continues backing wes off Ireland this allows significant height rises over France and even the UK and so this fiercesome heat will spread north pushing 100° air up into southern France, 90s into Paris, possibly Brussels and Amsterdam while upper 80s extend across the channel and into London and Southeast England.

The models have been incrediably persistent all week on this brutal heat wave and it continues to not back down. Sunday still looks to be the day for potentially historic, Sahara-like heat which will get as far north as Belgium and the Netherlands.

The mighty impressive 592 height line still looks to extend as far north as Paris while 850 temps are plenty conducive for highs surpassing the 100° mark in Madrid, Paris and even Brussels and Amsterdam. Some spots in between could well push 102-105° and these kinds of values rival those set back during the devastating heatwave of August 2003 which killed hundreds of thousands throughout Western Europe.

London continues to look at temperatures around 88° (31°C) on Sunday but there is always a chance at a degree or two hgiher, maybe reaching the 92° (33°C) mark set last summer.

By Monday, heights drop over the UK and down into northern France so this will allow temperatures to fall considerably from Sunday’s record threatening values. The heat core rather than being over central France on Sunday will eventaully shift towards Italy by Tuesday with a trough diving into NW Europe, shifting the 100s across to southern Germany and into Italy where Rome should top 100°. The Balearics and other Med islands will also take a run at 100s too so no cooling sea breeze relief.
