Flooding Rains For Northeast, Severe Weather Threat For Memphis, Atlanta to DC, Baltimore

Well it’s a very different day throughout the Northeast today compared the a couple of days ago when New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington surpassed the century mark. Today it’s all about temps in the chilly 60s, cloud and rain thanks to the presence of low pressure.

Heavy rain has been falling throughout the afternoon from Upstate New York down to DC with areas seeing heavy and persistent rains which is leading to flooding. Parts of low lying Long Beach Island in New Jersey is under water due to the heavy and persistent rains.

As you can see below from this Accuweather graphic, we can expect as much as 2 inches of rain to fall and this is not only much needed but it’s unusual to be seeing this given the recent pattern. While it’s cool and wet over the Northeast, a frontal boundary seperating the cool with hot, humid air is sparking strong thunderstorms this afternoon from western Tennessee all the way up through DC to the Delmarva. Expect localised flooding, gusty, possibly damaging winds and hail from these cells this afternoon and into the evening hours. Big cities such as Memphis, Atlanta, Richmond, DC to Baltimore have a risk of getting on on these bigger storms. Just yesterday we saw parts of Baltimore under water due to thunderstorms.
