[error] DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS ARE ADVANCING UPON THE BIG CITIES OF THE NORTHEAST WITH LOTS OF HEAT/HUMIDITY TO FUEL DAMAGING WIND, FLOODING RAIN, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HAIL, EVEN TORNADOES [/error]

While yesterday was hot, today is hottest of the year for much of the Northeast from Philly to Boston. Philadelphia has topped 100° for a second time this summer while DC’s 100+ this afternoon marks the 7th time beyond the century mark this summer and now just 2 shy of 1988 record for most 100s in a year.

While we saw some powerful thunderstorms explode across northern Ohio up into western and central Pennsylvania, New York up into New England yesterday, the front responsible is now making a run for the major cities and storms are blowing up and quickly turning strong to severe across central and eastern Pennsylvania, north and west Jersey, Long Island right over the north burbs of New York City as well as over the NY/CT line and north burbs of Boston. Tornadoes are possible near Boston but damaging winds, hail, lightning, localised flooding downpours are all primary threats.
