90s Return To I-95 South Of NYC This Weekend, Possible Mid-90s For NYC Late Next Week? (Includes Video)

The ECMWF has plenty of summer heat across much of the country through next week with a return to 90s for the Mid-Atlantic by Monday. While the strong and expansive west-east ridge keeps things warm, the model also shows a continuation of the rather active Pacific track storm with more strong low dropping out of the Gulf of Alaska into the Northwest. At this time of year, troughs only get so far south over the West as the Four corners high becomes too strong to really penetrate and weaken.

This weekend shows the trough work into the western Great Lakes with hot air being underneath pushing north ahead of the dip in the jet. Chicago may push 95 degrees with the core of the ridge working up into Quebec and Labrador by early next week. This allows 90s to return to the Washington DC to Trenton corridor but further north with the position of the ridge centred over the interior east of Canada, a backdoor front pulls a cooling Atlantic breeze into New York City and New England keeping them in the 80s (70s over New England).

By mid next week another system pushes into the Pacific Northwest, this will transport the heat core, like we’re seeing now, eastwards but with a stronger low, trough and upper level energy along with hotter air to the south, we may see a pocket of 100s within a larger area of mid and upper 90s spread through the Central Plains and into the Ohio Valley mid to late next week. Another push of mid or even upper 90s returns to Chicago as well as Cleveland and Pittsburgh. A significant severe outbreak may occur across the Northern Plains, Rather than the ridge lifting northeast towards Labrador, it looks to continue east, raising heights and thickness values across New York City and Boston and that means 90s! We may even see upper 90s for a day or two Thursday-Friday next week as far north as Boston, maybe Bangor.
