Next Rain Band Arrives Tuesday For UK but Something Bigger May Be Lurking Late Next Week!

GFS surface chart shows 980mb low over Ireland on Friday (Chart courtesy of MeteoGroup)

While it’s been a grey, dissapointing later part of the Jubilee weekend for the majority of the United Kingdom with plenty of wet weather across the southern half, Monday looks to see clearance from this rain and a better day is in store. Highs will be supressed but slightly up from Sunday poor early June values of 12-14C at best with perhaps 15 or 16C Monday afternoon.

Unfortunately, while we have one area of rain pushing out, we have a new band of rain set to arrive Tuesday. This band, associated with a cold front is the leading edge of a monster low spinning over the Atlantic, south of an equally as powerful high over Greenland. This will spread more rain into ALL areas of the UK by Tuesday following a fine, dry start but it’s what may loom late next week which could be noteworthy!

The current GFS chart shows the central Atlantic low elongating and a new centre forms southwest of the UK later Wednesday and this appears to work northeastwards deepening all the while. How strong? The model shows a 980mb low over Ireland by Friday, this would bring unseasonable gales and heavy rain across Ireland and the UK Friday/Saturday.

I shall keep you posted on this in coming days.
