More Heavy Rains, Gusty Winds Associated With Atlantic Lows For UK, Major Heat For Spain This Weekend, Possibly 100°F From Seville To Madrid

After a cold weekend by May standards with widespread frosts and pockets of snow even to low levels in Scotland, it’s a milder but rather unsettled week ahead for Ireland and the UK, sound familiar?

The top GFS precip chart courtesy of the meteo group site shows a band of heavy rain pushing across Ireland and the UK through today with much of Ireland and an area from the N Midlands, Wales, North of England and Southern Scotland seeing some heavy and persistent rains through this afternoon and evening, Snows will fall over the mountains of Scotland with potential for a short lived covering over the tops of the N Pennines, Southern Uplands too but generally confined to above 500 metres. Southern England as well as northern Scotland shouldn’t be too bad with bright or sunny spells with highs in south of 13C and 7C in north. Read More!

Major Spain Heat Continues To Be Shown On Models

Since last week I have been closely monitoring the potential building of major heat over Mali, Morrocco, Algeria and Libya and the northward advance up through Iberia late this week with a peaking this weekend. The ECMWF continues to firmly show a blowtorch and likely 100s F surging up through Madrid. However, a deep trough digging down through the UK means the heat gets deflected northeast into areas already enjoying a balmy past two weeks, it appears right now that we will continue to have to content ourselves with cool, very unsettled weather with a northerly upper flow dragging arctic air down from the pole.
