Northern Scotland To Go From 22C To 8C & Hill Snow By Saturday, Drought Expands North Into Yorkshire
We have seen a gradual cooling trend over Scotland and Northern Ireland today with more in the way of cloud cover and breezier conditions. However, while heights are slowly creeping down, we did still see plenty of sunshine from the Central Lowlands southwards today with highs widely ranging between 17-20C. It was warm enough at Cardiff Butte Park, South Wales today for a new March record to be set with 20.9C which would best old record of 20.8C according to Nick Miller of BBC.
Other very warm high’s today so far include 21.6C at Solent, 20.6C at Cardiff, 20C at Topcliffe and 19C at Dundee according to Nick Miller of BBC.
Tomorrow will be warm also but slightly cooler than today across Scotland as the high nudges further to the northwest. This will draw cooler air down this weekend and eventually (next week), cold air down from the north and northwest.
This weekend will see highs go from this week’s low 20s C over Highlands Scotland to 6-8C with below freezing wind chills and snow showers over higher ground. Highs down at lower levels across the Central Belt will be down to around 10 or 11C while southern areas and Ireland will see highs down to nearer 12-14C. Some showers and blustery conditions is quite likely over Scotland this weekend but it will be drier and sunnier over England and Wales.
By next week, it appears colder air will sink southwards as the high is gone and the trough of cold air sweeps in. Monday through Wednesday looks very chilly with highs in the north perhaps only ranging 6-8C with cooler windchills combined with cold showers falling as snow over higher ground, even down into the north Peninnes.
Highs further south will range from 8-11C in Midlands, 9-12C in south.
Is it really going to snow?
