High pressure  brought us one very sunny day across practically the entire UK and most of Ireland and this combined with a soft southerly flow allowed temps to respond perfectly. Yes, it was a day to grab the shorts, perhaps take a stroll down through your local park as temps rose into the mid to upper teens C, even up here across Scotland, for a change, we were blessed by wall to wall, hazy sunshine with not a cloud to be seen for most. Ayrshire & Cent Highlands was the place to be for us with the highest reading seen at Dalmellington, Ayrshire at 18C followed by 17C at both Aviemore (Highlands) and Saltcosts on the North Ayrshire coast. 3rd place was a pleasant 16C at Ayr. Info courtesy of STV weatherman Sean Batty. While there were multiple 18C readings from the Midlands southwards, the warmest place appears to have been Otterbourne, Hampshire with a reading of 20.1C (68F), this marks the UK’s warmest temp of 2012 so far.
