Heavy Rain To Spread Across Drought Areas Of England On Sunday, Possible Backside Snow From S. Yorks to Suffolk

The pattern is finally changing for us here across the UK and Ireland and that change will be most noticable tonight into tomorrow as skies clear out across the northern UK, combined with a colder upper level air mass will allow temps to drop down to near freezing producing frost in rural areas. In contrast, across the southern UK we will see an area of heavy rain push northeastwards up into Cornwall, Devon from off the Atlantic and this will extend across much of southern England through Sunday morning up into the Midlands and eastern England through the afternoon. This of course is very good to see for the drought areas.

As tomorrow progresses we shall see two things happen. 1) a colder push of air out of the NW will draw down over Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, England and Wales and 2) this will force the area of heavy precipitation southeastwards. What will be very interesting is that as the cold air eventually reaches the northern extent of this area of rain, this will turn rain to snow and it all dependants upon how quickly the cold meets the rain and speed of southward progression as to where and how much snow will fall.

Right now I believe it’s possible for snow to fall over the higher ground of South Yorkshire and to lower levels over Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire into Norfolk and Suffolk.

While it’s a messy day across the South, it looks to be a very nice day with plenty of sunshine across Cumbria, Northumberland northwards into Scotland where temps will be near seasonal values of 5-8C rather than 10-13C.
