Today Became the UK’s Hottest October Day On Record

Don’t step on my sandcastle! There was hardly room to move on Brighton beach this afternoon as thousands of people threw down their winter coats and dug out their swimwear (Photo courtesy of the Daily Mail)

Today’s hot 86 degree (29.9C) reading at Gravesend, Kent has rewritten the history books becoming the hottest October high on record for England as well as the UK, beating the old record of 85 degrees (29.2C) recorded on this date 26 years ago at March, Cambridgshire.

In Wales, today marks a national October record with a high of 83 degrees (28.2C) at Hawarden, Flintshire, beating the old record of 80 degrees (26.4C) recorded at Ruthin, Denbighshire on October 1, 1985.

Before the clouds and rain arrived late yesterday, we saw a toasty 76 degree (24.7C) high recorded in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh which marked Scotland’s hottest day for so late in the year in 50 years.

Amazingly before today’s record-breaker, the hottest reading in the UK was way back on June 27th when the high topped 92 degrees (33.3C) at Olympic Park in London.

A BRITAIN OF CONTRAST ON HOTTEST OCTOBER DAY!
While England and Wales Baked in their hottest October weather on record, Scotland was lashed by flooding rains

These were my driving conditions early this afternoon…

THESE WERE THE CONDITIONS I EXPERIENCED ON MY WAY NORTH BETWEEN STRANRAER AND GLASGOW. THIS FLOODING ON THE A77 WAS JUST SOUTH OF GIRVAN., NOTE AT ABOUT 48 SECONDS IN, ROAD DISSAPPEARS AND BECOMES A ‘MOVING’ RIVER.. THIS WATER IS RUN OFF FROM THE HILLS, I WORRIED THE ROAD WAS WASHED OUT UNDERNEATH!
