MORE SNOW FALLING TONIGHT ON TOP OF THE INCH WHICH FELL LAST NIGHT, MANY AREAS RECIEVED MORE, ENOUGH TO CLOSE EDINBURGH AIRPORT ONCE AGAIN!

Believe it or not, this signals the commencement to a bigtime warmup coming! Within 72 Hours, there may be no snow on ther ground!

CENTRAL SCOTLAND SNOW WARMING!
SNOW IS ONCE AGAIN FALLING AT THE MOMENT THROUGHOUT THE GLASGOW AREA AND LIGHTLY ACCUMMULATING, NOT SO MUCH IN THE WAY OF SNOW FURTHER EAST TOWARDS THE LOTHIANS AND EDINBURGH LIKE THIS MORNING, A FURTHER INCH OR TWO MAY ACCUMMULATE ON TOP OF THE WIDESPREAD 1-3 INCH COVERING!

The much anticipated band of snow has arrived in from the west after increasingly clousier, milkier clouds started to build in from the west. Currently, the snow is light with thin flakes and is merely “slightly” accummulating, whitening the bare road surface. However, if the forecast proves correct, heavier, more persistent snows should kick in before this band of moisture exits off to the east later tonight and early tomorrow morning.

I do still expect 1-4 inches of snow accummulation with closer to 1, perhaps 2 inches at low levels, say in the city of Glasgow, 2-4 inches possible more for the hills.

NORTHERN HEMISPHERE UNDERGOES HUGE UPPER ATMOSPHERIC ALTERATIONS AS NAO (NORTH ATLANTIC OSCILLATION) BREAKS DOWN, WINTER TO DISSAPPEAR FROM OUR NECK OF WOODS

Though much of Scotland and even northern England has snow on the ground or it’s snowing right now, this WON’T LAST! Europe as a whole has been all but drained of it’s cold air reservoir and as a result, the entire reservoir of coldest air in the world is changing course in a large-scale way which may suggest we see a return to weather which is more reminicent of those warm, wet and windy winters of recent times.

So, what’s likely to happen and what’s going on up there to create this bigtime change in the weather?

Well, firstly, the snow you have in your back garden will be GONE in a few days. The large blocking-high which was centered over Greenland so persistently has indeed broken down (that’s the transition from a negative NAO to positive), therefore we here in Britain will see the typical Atlantic air return and I’m sure for most of you, it’s not a minute too soon. The south of Britain has seen that change but a stubborn trough and thus cooler air has remained over Scotland and northern Britain bringing yet more snow to Scotland and the hills of northern England and Wales as moisture has surged up from the south and west and clashed with the southbound cooler air. Over the next few days, that trough will “flatten out” and that means our air will come bodily in off the Atlantic, pushing our highs towards 8C (46 degrees) in just a few days from now and though the next few nights may drop below freezing, those too are numbered. The snow is the only thing to slow our warm up as snow on the ground chills the air just above, once it’s gone however, it’s off to the races with our temperatures which may top 10C (50 degrees) come the later part of this week, nights may stay at 7-8C (45-48 degrees).

As for central and southern Europe, there is simply warm Atlantic air free-flowing across the continent and amazingly, this warmth will progress north towards the typically colder countries which will cause all sorts of problems with snowmelt flooding, ice-jams etc. All this warmth across Europe appears to be wanting to hold for the forseeable future. The question is, where has all the cold that was once over Europe gone to? Surely it has to go somewhere? Well, Siberia has seen an increased pool of cold and indeed eastern Asia has cooled down as well as a freshening up of the Arctic air pool across not only the pole itself but Alaska and northern Canada is seeing a broadening of their cold pool. The push of Atlantic warmth over Europe is pressing ever colder air into Siberia, eastern and central Asia and North America and thius sets the stage for North America’s frigid Arctic outbreak which looms. What will allow all that frozen air to dive south into most of the US will be a building of warmth over top of the pole and Alaska as well as much of northern Canad which is currently seeing the air grow colder and larger thanks to Europe’s warming. The entire system aloft will continue to advance, not stay put in the current set-up of ridges and troughs and this will set the stage for all of Alaska and Canada’s cold to roar south perhaps between January 15 till nearly the close of the month. Another thing I’m seeing is, the shrinkining of Siberia’s pool of extremely cold air by January 16th, this tells me that a powerful cross polar jet will almost drain Siberia’s exceptional cold air reservoir and will North America with it, meaning IT MAY IN FACT BE COLDER THAN MOST THINK, RECORDS VERY LIKELY WILL FALL, Question I’m asking myself is, will any state records be threatened?

The Day temperatures continue to remain abnormally below normal in U.P, Punjab,haryana and Northern M.P.

Today, it is Agra’s turn to set a new low !Agra sets a new record for a cold day, with the maximum temperature on saturday not pushing above 7.7c.This could well be the coldest day temperature ever in Agra. I have yet to verify this,but could well be a record.And this is 14c below normal !


Most stations in Punjab, Haryana and U.P. are 10/12c below normal in their Saturday temperature recordings.Bikaner saw 12.5c in the day, 10c below normal.The extent can be viewed in this IMD chart.


However, for the night readings, the coldest in the country on saturday was Shyok at -27c,followed by Leh at -13.6c. A weak W.D.has eased the cold wave conditions in the Kashmir valley, where the upper reaches also experienced light to moderate snowfall.Leh is experiancing partially cloudy weather.


In Rajasthan, Bikaner airport froze at -2.3c,Mt. abu also saw -2c, while Pilani was 0.5c.


In U.P, Sultanpur was the lowest at 1.4c.


Surely, temperatures and severe conditions are seen easing, specially in the day, in NW India , including Delhi, after /around 11th. Jan. Emergence of clouds will result in temperatures rising, and foggy conditions easing out.


In Pakistan, Extremely thick fog has caused massive disturbance to traffic flow on roads and flight schedule in the capital besides upper parts of the country and interior Sindh.


The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were enveloped by thick fog, and air traffic suspended.


In the Punjab province,the worst hit areas are Multan, Bhawalpure, Bhawalnagar, Kahniwal, Chhiccha Watni, Jhang and others. Lahore had a high of 8c today.


In the interior of Sindh including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana,and surrounding areas are in grip of severe cold and mist.Routine life has been badly affected by this.On saturday, Sibbi with -0.6c was the coldest at night and the high was at 13c..Karachi continued with a low of 8c, though it was expected to rise to 10c by Saturday.Quetta in Balochistan freezes at -7.5c on Saturday.


Temperatures will rise after 11th. Jan as clouds appear in the Northern regions.

A generally snowy start with fresh 1 inch snowcover here in my garden, areas outwith, particularly over higher ground saw more. The day remained generally sunny, not as cold and by late afternoon clouds build in from the Atlantic and snowfall recommenced, turning heavy and sleety at times which accummulated into a slippery glaze on local backroads, creating dangerous driving conditions.
