southwest
The hot and steamy air that’s been lingering over the Southwestern US over the past 5 or so days will continue today though suttle changes are happening as the High which has been centered over eastern Arizona and New Mexico will migrate eastwards over the next few days as a trough and associated storm system over the Gulf of Alaska drops southeast, marking a reduction in both temperatyre and humidity. Today after a stifling night in Las Vegas should warm to possibly the hottest levels of the year so far with a forecast high of 113 or even 114, which the later would make for the warmest of 2010 so far. As for Phoenix, after a low of around 90, should warm to around 113. Palm Springs should make 115. As for areas nearer the coast it it will be cooler with a more pronounced onshore NW flow thanks to the regaining ground of the Pacific High’s influence and return to the marine layer. Lows should cool more and highs should return to the upper 60s to low 70s today at the beaches. Though LA should see their last “hot” day in the low 90s, even there, a cooling breeze should make it slightly more comfortable across the basin. Death Valley’s high is expected to top between 124 and 126. If it were to make 126, this would be the hottest of the year there.
northwest
Today will once again be a stunning July day across the Pacific Northwest with comfortable conditions along the coastl plain, seasonably hot, east of the Cascades with a range in temperature of 75-85 between Seattle down to Portland, 60s and 70s in the mountains, 90s to low 100s over the interior PNW with Salt Lake once again looking at the century mark and a 98 at Boise. Lows tonight range from the 50s at the coast, 40s in the mountains and 60s to around 70 east of the mountains.
southern plains
Today will be another scorcher for the interior Southern plains states with 100 expected from Dallas to Oklahoma City whilst 100% and mid-90s will rule west-central of Texas. It’s likely to reach around 100-102 over the deserts of southwest and far west Texas, around El Paso. As for the Upper Texas coast and Greater Houston, highs may be dented by thunderstorm development later this afternoon as a moist, humid, south flow pushes north from the central Gulf, making the low-90s feel more like the low 100s, this juicy air is likely to develop noon to 7pm thunderstorms across a large area of southeast Texas, down to the mid and lower Texas coast. Lows tonight range from the upper 70s to near 80 between Dallas and Oklahoma City as well as right along the Gulf Coast. As for inland south Texas, mid-70s as usual will be the case.
northern plains
Today will be MUCH cooler for the Dakotas after broiling 90s and mid-100s blasted the western high plains into interior South Dakota. As for the corridor between Minneapolis to Chicago, where it topped the low to mid-90s, today should reach 84 at Minneapolis but a still warm 91 will should peak at 91. Storms (possibly severe) will impact the Chicagoland area today as well as down in the Kansas City to St Louis corridor where highs there will reach the steamy mid-90s with dew points in the mid to UPPER 70s as the southerly flow roars into the mid-mississippi valley. It may feel close to 110 today and even localised areas across Missouri, Iowa, central and southern Illinois could feel like 115 or higher. Lows tonight across the region should be in the 50s and 60s across the Dakotas but a sultry mid-70s may be the case like we;ve seen in recent nights in both Minenapolis and Chicago. St Louis to Kansas City may struggle to get below 84 tonight!
southeast & florida
A warm and stormy day is likely throughout much of the Southeast. Highs should reach into the lwo to mid-80s for most with a chance for everyone to witness a thunderstorm over their area. 90s are likely over the Carolinas up to the Norfolk, Va area as well as throughout Florida, but thunderstorms are likely despite slightly warmer temps. Some storms may in fact turn strong to possibly severe over the Carolinas this afternoon and tonight. Lows will generally fall to the seasonal low to mid-70s for most. 80 from coastal areas as well as South Florida’s urban corridor.
northeast & mid-atlantic
Another hot, but just quite as hot day as yesterday. It will once again be fairly humid with highs topping 95 down at Norfolk, Va, with perhaps near 100 over Virginia’s coastal plain to the west of Norfolk. 93 for DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia, 92 for New York and even a 90 as far north as Boston with plenty of long, sunny spells across the entire Northeast! Tonight lows drop off to the 50s for interior New Engkland, 60s for most outwith the mountains and cities and mid-70s for the urban cores.. We may see 82-84 degrees tonight around Norfolk where both the combo of high daytime heat, high dew points and uran heat island will hold temps higher there.

Weather Talk

USA IS HOT THROUGHOUT!

If you live in the USA, you’ll know it’s been hot and continues to be hot, more or less anywhere, east of the Rockies is extremely humid with central plains states enduring 90s to even low 100s, whilst dew points soar into the 70s with some spots across Missouri, central and southern Illinois and Iowa at times pushing at or above 80 degrees for dew points. That is exceptionally unpleasant levels of moisture in the air. We are seeing the Four Corners High pulling moisture into the Desert Southwest, making the 110 degree plus days feel hotter and is holding nighttime lows well above normal with Phoenix and Las Vegas failing to drop below 90 degrees, whilst the Bermuda High and pulling vast amounts of deep tropical moisture north through the heartland of the nation. This combined with high heat reaching the upper 90s to low 100s is making for extremely dangerous conditions, realfeels are pushing 110 degrees or higher. Nights are like the Southwest, remaining abnormally warm thanks to such high, tropical humidity.

As for the East Coast it also remains hot and humid with the Northeast enduring a very hot, humid summer with persistent 90s, even mid-90s, all the way to New York with nights struggling to get below the mid-70s!

Even just this morning, LaGuardia Airport, east of Manhattan, New York City, the low fell to only 82 degrees, Philadelphia 78.
