Father’s Day in the Northeast will be a hot and sticky one with high pressure in control and forcing the heat to build to the low to mid-90s from Raleigh, NC (95) to Washington DC (94) to Baltimore, Newark, DE (93) up to the Philadelphia area, eastward to Atlantic City (90-93), a glorious day to take a stroll along the boardwalks from Ocean City, MD to Seaside Heights, NJ, it will be a pefect day along the Jersery Shore and the beaches of Long Island, all the way to Revere Beach, MA. Highs along the beaches should range from around 90 along the VA, DE up to Cape May, NJ coast. 80s for the Jersey Shore and 80s to perhaps upper 70s for the Long Is to Massachussetts shore as sea breezes will make it 4 to as much as 8 degrees cooler than perhaps only 3-6 miles inland. Whilst it will top 92-94 in Philly, it may top right around 90 in Manhattan and out to Newark International, whilst Boston climbs to 85. Out to the Appalachains, the mountains of the Carolinas to West Virginia will warm to around 90 with comfortable humidity. Lows tonight range from the 50s and 60s over the mountains to low 70s for the cities of the I-95 corridor. The shower and T-storm risk will be restricted to New England with a small chance stretching down to the Boston area late this afternoon and evening.

It will be a dangerously HOT & HUMID Father Day across the Southeast as High Pressure remains in firm control over regional airspace and is abnormally strong. Highs will run towards the 95-degree mark for many areas today and with dew points running in the low to mid-70s, it will feel close to 110 by late this afternoon, but the dangerous arrive by 11-12 noon. The worst dew points will be over east SE Texas, LA, MS and AL with areas close to the Gulf seeing upper 70-degree dew points… very very uncomfortable and downright dangerous. Mark’s City-Cast as follows: New Orleans, Hi 94 (DP near 75 all day), Lo 80. Mobile, Al, Hi 94 (DP near 78 by day, low 80s tonight!), Lo 81. Pensacola, Fla, Hi 92 (DP near 80m low 80s to 85 tonight!), Lo 82. Columbus, Ga, Hi 96 (DP 74), Lo 76. Atlanta, Hi 95 (DP 73), Lo 75. Charleston, SC, Hi 90 (DP near 80), Lo 80. Note dew points near the Gulf & Atlantic coasts are dangerously high with upper 70s to even low 80s! There will also be little if any chance of PM storms as the high is strong and has !capped” the atmosphere over the region, except Fla where sea breeze convergence is likely to spark storms throughout the state.

Father’s in the southern Plains from south-central Texas to Little Rock to Kansas City will be sweating and in need of AC and shade as the core of high pressure is parked right between Dallas and Shreveport, La and raising highs this afternoon to between 99-101. Youll be lucky to see a cloud in the sky this afternoon across much of Texas, western Louisiana and up into Arkansas as a blazing sun and powerful upper-level ridge will produce the warmest air outside of the classic desert hot spots. I expect highs to top at least 100 for Dallas, Shreveport and Little Rock, areas of western Louisiana, Arkansas and up into Missouri will see highs near 98 but humidity will also be in and around 70 to 73, making HI values push perhaps 110-114 by 3-5pm this afternoon. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! Nighttime lows will struggle to fall into the 70s for much of the areas with a predicted low of 80 for downtown Dallas, Shreveport and Little Rock. Highs across the western and far southern Texas will warm into the mid-90s. I expect Houston to top at least 95 degrees and with  dew points around 75 it will be dangerous.

Father’s Day will have a cool, foggy cloudy start for right the way down the West Coast, perhaps remaining foggy in some spots all day but for most areas south of San Francisico, skies will clear and a stiff onshore wind will develop, enhanced by PNW trough and forcing highs to only the 60s to near 70 for the beaches from northern to southern California. However it will be HOT for the Southwest Deserts with upper 90s for southern Nevada (around 100 in Laughlin) and over 100 from Palm Springs across to Baker, Needles and down into Phoenix. As usual the warmest place not only in the West but in the US will be found once again in Death Valley where highs are expected to top the 110-mark, Lows will fall to around 78-80 degrees. It will warm into the mid-80s in Salt Lake City whilst Reno warms to the upper 70s to near 80s. It will be sunny throughout with only high level clouds pushing west to east across the northern horizon, in association with the storminess over the Pacific Northwest. The stalled frontal system that’s ran Pacific storms along it has been the divder between cool, Pacific origin air that’s controlled much of the weather from WA-OR all the way to the Lakes will be the venue for yet another wet systems that’s progressing across the Northern Tier today, bringing only low 80s and a high chance of heavy rains and embedded storms across the Dakotas and particularly Iowa and southern Illinois today and tonight. Highs will range from upper 70s across northern North Dakota to near 100 degrees down in St Louis, which although stormy, it’s on the southern side of the stalled front and seen the hot, humid air push up from Texas. Mark’s City-Cast as follows: Minot, ND, Hi 80 (heavy rain shwrs), Lo 58. Minneapolis, MN, Hi of 82 (Rain shwrs), Lo 60. Chicago, IL, Hi of 85 (PM storm), Lo 70. St Louis, MO, Hi 99 (PM storm), Lo 78.

I’m sorry folks in the PNW I have nothing good to tell you about your weather once again. Father’s Day will be no different to recent times for this region. The general story goes. Rain showers are high, some heavy and highs along the coastal plain from Seattle to Portland will merely warm to the mid-60s, Lows tonight down to the mid-50s with some spots inland even falling into the 40s. Mountain basins and valleys which see clear skies may drop to near freezing. Points across the N. Sacramento Valley of California will see sunny skies but as the trough dips down, effecting pressure heights over this area, highs for Redding down to Red Bluff will be lucky to top 87 degrees this afternoon, Lows will fall to a chilly 60.

A Beautiful and Warm Week ahead for the UK

I see little to no rain in the forecast through this upcoming week and with high pressure firmly in control, we will have persistent warmth with sunshine and highs generally in the low 70s inland and upper 60s for the coast of Scotland. Far northern Scotland may see cloud and even rain showers but south of Loch Lomond, skies may remain mostly sunny through this entire week ahead and though temps may fall at night to cool levels, a strong sun and a warm airmass in place is very likely to allow us to enjoy highs which top 70 from Greenock to Edinburgh Monday through Saturday of next weekend.

As for England, they have in fact seen slightly cooler air as well as stiff, cold, east to northeast winds off the North Sea and forcing highs to only the mid-60s. Pressure heights have been lower for eastern, central and indeed southern England, therefore explaining why Glasgow has been the hot spot for Britain.

High pressure will remain in control through this week and will spread more across England, pushing out those chilly east, northeast winds and allowing 70s to perhaps low 80s to return by mid to late week for England and I do believe even Scotland may take a run at 80 sooner rather than later, perhaps within the next 5 to 10 days as the subtropical high looks set to hang on over Britain.

The heat is back in the Sub-Continent !

“Vagaries of the Weather” mentions today (afternoon write up) of the possibility of a heat wave returning to the region. But before “the ink could dry”,we have it on us !

Today’s highest in Asia reading returns back to Pakistan, with Larkana and Sibi notching 51c.Followed by 50c at Al Ahsa Airport in Saudi Arabia.

Bhawalnagar(Pakistan) was next with 49c

In India, it was Ganganagar as usual with a high of 48.1c. (Information from smaller towns not yet in).

Delhi airport has jumped to 46.7c today.The list of 47s and 46s are long, so putting up a map of the highs today would be better.

Monday could see higher temperatures in the region…

On Sunday, Mumbai had a high of 32.2c at Colaba and 32.6c at S’Cruz, with 2.2 mms of rain (Colaba) and 9.4 mms at S’Cruz. (Prediction for Sunday in this blog was 32c and 15mms of rain.)

Today started with the coolest low in quite sometime and eventually warmed under mostly sunny skies and light breezes to match the year’s warmest high recorded here at the house of 76 degrees.
