>According to a 6pm ET update, Seattle has topped a new all-time record of 101 degrees, but could still be rising! I now, put the high for today at 103 degrees….. M.V.

With a downsloping east winds and air temperature currently at 99 in Seattle, the old record is likely to fall and the high will probably top 102 degrees at the rate at which the air is heating up, aided probably by downsloping off the Cascades. An historic afternoon underway all across the PNW where Portland will also likely set a new all-time high today and I expect 108 to maybe even 109 by days end, so extremely dangerous for a region not used to this find of heat.
Unfortunately due to the heat wave and history make this evening, I will have to hold of Miles O’Brien’s interview until tomorrow as I am still typing this up and won’t have it complete until tomorrow as it’s now 11pm here and I am up at 4.15am for work.
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more updates of the heat in the Pacific Northwest and all the way up to the Arctic. Meanwhile also watch out for cooling tonight across the Midwest.

Update: Check here at Brett Anderson’s page http://www.accuweather.com/mt-news-blogs.asp?partner=rss&blog=Anderson&pgurl=/mtweb/content/Anderson/archives/2009/07/pattern_will_be_slow_to_shift.asp to see just how hot it got in far northwest Canada. 89 up in west, central Yukon and 91 in Northwest Territories. A remarkable achievement for so far north…
